Top 10 PS3 Games of 2010

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops

Black Ops is a first-person shooter. The player assumes the role of a foot soldier who can wield various firearms, of which two at a time can be carried; throw grenades and other explosives; and use other equipment as weapons. A player close enough to an enemy can kill with one blow. A character can take three stances: standing, crouching, or prone; each affects rate of movement, accuracy, and stealth. The player can dive prone from a standing position when running. The player can momentarily sprint but will then grow tired. The screen glows red to indicate damage to a player’s health, which goes away over time. When the character is within the blast radius of a live grenade, a marker indicates the direction of the grenade, helping the player to flee or throw it back. Among the game’s weapons are crossbows with bolts and explosive ammunition, Dragon’s Breath rounds and ballistic knives

  2. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

The game introduces a brand-new management system: the player can recruit new members by destroying any of twelve “Borgia towers” around Rome where papal troops are stationed, then rescuing disgruntled citizens in their districts from harassing guards. The player as Ezio can then send them to assignments around Europe or call them for support during missions (if they are not already occupied). Tasking the novice Assassins is essential to make them gain experience, and the player will be able to customize their appearance, skills and weapon training by spending the skill points they’ve earned. Assassins can die on missions, from which they will not return. The player will master new gadgets, such as Leonardo da Vinci’s parachute, which can be used when jumping from tall buildings. Along with poison darts, a faster acting poison, a crossbow, and the ability to hold and throw heavier weapons like axes.

  3. Gran Turismo 5

The cars in GT5 are separated into two categories, “standard” and “premium”. Standard cars have standard headlights, and basic damage modelling. In addition, standard cars do not feature interior camera views. Premium cars feature headlights capable of high and low beams, detailed interior camera views, and detailed damage models. Premium cars also feature working windshield wipers which can be used on tracks with rain or snow. Around 20% of all cars featured in the game fall into the “premium”-category.

  4. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

The game was first hinted at during E3 2009 by EA’s CEO, John Riccitiello. It was officially revealed as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit at EA’s Media Briefing during E3 2010. with a trailer which showed a high-speed police chase involving three different racers. The trailer was followed by a live demo of the game on stage between creative director Craig Sullivan as a cop and producer Matt Webster as a racer. According to Riccitiello, the game was in development for two years.

  5. Fallout New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas takes place during the year 2281, 4 years after the events of Fallout 3, and 204 years after the Great War of 2077, making this installment chronologically the latest in the series thus far. The game is set in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Mojave Desert, which is known as the “Mojave Wasteland”, is roughly the same size as the “Capital Wasteland” in Fallout 3 and is spread across parts of real-world Nevada, Arizona and California. Unlike other cities in the Fallout series, Las Vegas was not struck directly by a nuclear attack. Its buildings remain intact, and mutation of its inhabitants is minimal. The city is divided between various factions, most notably the New California Republic (NCR), returning from Fallout 2 but now bloated and mismanaged; the slave-driving, Roman Army-styled Caesar’s Legion; and the various factions of New Vegas itself. Landmarks featured in Fallout: New Vegas include the Hoover Dam, which supplies power to the city and the HELIOS One solar energy plant.

  6. Final Fantasy XIII

The game takes place in the fictional floating world of Cocoon, whose government, the Sanctum, is ordering a purge on civilians who have supposedly come into contact with those from Pulse, the much-feared world below. Lightning, a former soldier from Cocoon, begins her fight against the government in order to save her sister, who has been branded a Pulse l’Cie—unwilling servants to the beings known as the fal’Cie, who maintain order on both Cocoon and Pulse—and thus has become an enemy of Cocoon. Lightning is soon joined by a band of allies, and together the group also become l’Cie after their encounter with a Pulse fal’Cie. Together, they rally against the Sanctum, while also trying to discover their “Focus” as l’Cie—the tasks they must complete before their time comes to an end.

  7. Vanquish

Vanquish takes place in the near future where the planet’s human population has exploded so rapidly that nations of people around the globe are fighting for the scarce available resources. The United States of America has attempted to alleviate its own energy problems by launching an O’Neill Cylinder space station harboring a solar energy-driven generator to provide them with an alternative source of fuel from the sun. However, the government of the Russian Federation on Earth has been overthrown in a coup d’état by ultra-nationalist forces calling themselves the Order of the Russian Star.

  8. Red Dead Redemption

Combat and gunplay are major parts of the game. Gunfights in Red Dead Redemption are conducted using a third-person system. The player can take cover, target a specific person, Blindfire , and free aim. Individual body parts can also be targeted, in order to take targets down non-lethally, who can then be lassoed and “hogtied” to capture individuals alive. When the player shoots an enemy, the game engine uniquely creates the AI reactions and movements. John Marston can choose from period-accurate weapons including revolvers, pistols, lever or bolt-action rifles, knives, explosives, lassos, mounted gatling guns, shotguns, sniper rifles and cannons.

  9. Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom

Majin’s story is set in a once prosperous and fruitful kingdom, which is overtaken by a mysterious darkness and thrown into disarray. While many citizens attempted to explore and find out what’s going on, they were never to be seen again, and the decay continued. To cleanse this forsaken kingdom of the darkness, a young thief named Tepeu sets out to free the mythical Majin – an all powerful and mystical beast, to reclaim its power and restore the land to its former glory.

  10. Pac-Man Champion’s Edition DX

Like the original Pac-Man, the basic gameplay of Pac-Man C.E. consists entirely of navigating Pac-Man through a maze, eating dots, power pellets and bonus fruit, and avoiding the four ghosts that roam the maze as well. Eating a power pellet causes the ghosts to turn blue, allowing Pac-Man to eat them and send them back to their home, where they re-emerge in their original form. If Pac-Man is caught by a ghost, the player loses a life.
